Gothic Tailor - The Seamstress
The Seamstress is not your typical lady slaving over a sewing machine. One of the country’s most talented clothes makers, she has the most impeccable credentials and a history which would put all but the very best in the industry to shame.
So why is she anonymous? Well that is an even longer story.
From the initial design, through pattern making and cutting, making up samples and finalising the finished piece, all her work is hers alone. She works without factories in China. She works without an army of skivvies. Everything she is involved with has been done by herself, from choosing fabrics, to cutting and seaming. Crochet and knitting is all done by hand. If you are lucky enough to own one of her pieces, you will cherish it.
A shirt may take a day of work. A skirt may take two. A cardigan could take a week to knit by hand. A tailored coat a fortnight. There are no shortcuts.
If you are a client, you will be presented not just with a garment finished to impeccable standards, but with detailed care instructions and in the knowledge that if you need it repaired, or taken in, then where possible this will be done with painstaking precision by her own hand.
Who am I?
I am her only apprentice. I make coffee. I sort the website. I do paperwork. I watch, and I learn.
